Our sweet boy, Smokey, had a urinary blockage yesterday (an emergency situation), and he had to have a procedure to have the blockage removed. He has to stay at the animal hospital for a few days with a catheter and IV in him. I just went to visit him and he seems to be doing okay. But I'm very worried about him. We'll find out tomorrow if he gets to come home or if further treatment will be necessary. I'm also worried because apparently this problem can reoccur, and it can be life-threatening if not caught and treated immediately. Do any of you cat people have experience with feline urinary tract problems or obstructions?
Good thoughts and prayers for our beloved Smokey would be much appreciated!

Stacey, I totally get your worry about your Kitty. Our old cat Sam had this very same problem in his youth and we changed his food long term. There are special diets for cats who get this (as I am sure your vet has advised). Our Sam lived 13 long years! I am thinking of you both.
Stacy- I have A LOT of experience with this problem. I have a Persian little boy kittie who had this problem at about 3-1/2 yrs. old and he is now 12 yrs. old and doing fine. I've learned a lot over the years and would be happy to share with you all that I've learned. I will try to email you via your link on your website.
Stacy- So sorry to hear about your fur baby! We have a cat who had several urinary infections when he was younger. He had one earlier this year and the vet encouraged us to make sure to give him filtered water as tap water can sometimes be the cause.
Hope and pray that everything works out!
I have 2 shihtzu's so I know how much they mean to us. We worry as much about them as we ever did our son!
Praying for your baby.
Stacey, I so sympathize with you! When our Jeremaya was just a kitten he had the same problem. For a whole year it was on and off, he was on a special diet and then, when he was about 1 year old we switched his food to Iams - and that was it. It never happened to him again. Unfortunately he passed away a month ago (http://tatatatam.blogspot.co.il/2012/06/2012-1998.html) - but he lived happily for 14 years and he was an amazing and healthy cat all these years. Be patient and see what your vet suggests. I'm sure your boy will be fine!
Thank you so much for all of your thoughtful comments, everyone! Your kindness and generosity with your words TRULY warms my heart!!!! Smokey is still at the vet, but we are hoping he can come home tomorrow. I'll update my blog with a current status soon!
Poor Smokey! Hope he feels better soon Stacy!
